Problem

Glass shower doors add a clean-cut and modern look to a bathroom. They also add an additional hassle when it comes to keeping things clean. Soap scum, oils, and water drops collect leaving the door a smudgy, fogging mess and ruining the crystal clear clean appearance.

Attack Plan

First, you have to put in the elbow grease to clean the existing build-up off the glass. It’s okay – this may be the last time you do this! Use this recipe for a magic soap-scum melter:

Funnel into a spray bottle the the following:

  • 1 1/4 cups white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda (add this slowly so the solution does “volano” out of the bottle)
  • 1/2 water

Spray the solution on the scummy door and let it sit for about 1 hour. Then, rinse the door with hot water and wipe dry with paper towels, newspaper, or a microfiber cloth. Bam. Soap scum GONE!

Next, head to your local big box store or automotive supply store to pick yourself up a bottle of rain-repellent designed for windshields. Apply to your glass shower door as instructed per the product label.

Upkeep

When you notice, after many showers, that the water no longer beads up and rolls away then it’s time for another application.
